From a laboratory bench to the cabinet table
Dr. Sankar Ghosh was born on 12 June 1974. He holds a PhD in Microbiology — a background that still shows in how he works: gather the evidence, test the assumption, then act.
His public life began in student politics in 1991 and continued through decades of grassroots organising. In 2015 he was elected councillor from Ward 24 of Siliguri and served as Member Mayor-in-Council for Education, Sports, Culture and Youth, later taking on Health. In March 2021 he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party, and in May 2021 entered the West Bengal Legislative Assembly from Siliguri.
Appointed Chief Whip of the Assembly in 2024, he was re-elected from Siliguri in 2026 with 1,20,760 votes — a margin of 73,192 — and on 1 June 2026 was sworn in as Cabinet Minister for Tourism and Parliamentary Affairs, Government of West Bengal.
